The Finders Keepers Design Market

May 11, 2010

Finders Keepers design market

I had a lot of fun at Finder’s Keepers on the weekend. The Finder’s Keepers (does that “the” seem out of place to you, or is it just me?) is a twice yearly design & art market that lets young designers showcase their handmade wares. It runs over 2 days – this year it was very conveniently scheduled to fall on the two days before Mother’s Day. Hmmm! Smart thinking, organisers!

So I don’t know if the markets are just naturally growing because of word of mouth, or if a lot of people had the same idea that I did of picking up a last-minute gift for mum, but it was completely PACKED!

Can I mention how much I love CarriageWorks? I’ve been lucky enough to shoot some portrait photos in there before with my work, and the place is just a photography DREAM. It’s huge and airy and just fills with sunlight – not to mention the gorgeous heritage brickwork and architectural details.

I loved how the market organisers (I assume) decorated the place with knitting to soften the hard industrial edges. Reminds me of that urban knitting graffiti of Knitta (Check out what their founder, Magda Sayeg, did to Sydney last year!). Whatever it is, it is too cool.

Knitta powaaa!

Of course, there was heaps of amazing work by the designers on show. Walking around was dizzying.

Here’s some stuff I loved (some photos I’ve borrowed from the artists’ websites):
