Periodic Table of Cupcakes

December 2, 2009

Periodic table of cupcakes

So I logged on to flickr this evening, and was thrown to see a ginormous spike in page-hits!

It seems like my photo of Kimmy’s Periodic Table of Cupcakes has been making the rounds lately 🙂

But besides being lucky enough to be there and snap the photo, I can’t take credit for this at all! The brilliant idea and execution were the result of a fantastic effort by my good friend Kimmy. Being a bit of a chemistry nut, (and a bit of a general nut too, let’s be honest :P) she’d decided that there was no better way to celebrate her 18th birthday than to recreate the periodic table in cupcakes!

Delicious AND informative!

Awesome right? Totally awesome. I am always a huge fan of nerdism + food. And I think most people (of discerning taste) agree!

BUT HILARIOUSLY, in the comments section on one of the blogs that linked to Kimmy’s cupcakes, the conversation moves from cake talk to something else entirely… (thanks to Fi for translating for me haha)

“The cupcakes made by the girl in the 2nd photo look nicer…. I originally wanted to say ‘I’ll marry the 2nd girl’.. then I saw that photo”

Hi, melpenguin…I’m sorry to say those words, really really really sorry…I didn’t mean to say that, that was totally a joke, and I didn’t anticipate that you would visit jandan.net and saw my comment, I even thought you can not understand chinese… I know my words are rude, and I sincerely apologize for that…
Having scanned a lot of pictures in your flickr, I have to say your pictures are brilliant. I really love them, especially those impressive photos of foods, they seem very tasty and yummy…
btw, I know you are in sydney early, that words ‘R U come from USA’ is kinda a test for distinguishing whether you are the really melpenguin.

Heya no hard feelings 😉 I thought the whole thing was very entertaining :)!!

I can’t understand Chinese myself (I’m Vietnamese-Australian!), but my boyfriend is from HK, and my other friends can understand Chinese too… so they translated for me hehe!

Anyway, thanks for the comment! See you around the interwebs!

…apparently, your friend Kimmy ‘the chemistry nut’ is very deft at cooking things, and I have two questions in my head: 1. those cupcake are colorful and vivid, is there any harmful coloring matters in them?2. Is Kimmy very pretty? Is she very popular in her circle?(no offence, just doing a research…)(*^﹏^*)

from my experience, all girls who are good at making cupcakes are hideous and i would certainly not marry any of them either. i think you should give up on this fantasy.

      • December 4, 2009 11:25 pm

You are definitely wrong, anonymous person of the internet. Why, I have a WONDERFUL friend named Sue who is just GORGEOUS, and LOVES TO COOK, and is just DYING to find someone to bake love muffins for. I should HOOK YOU TWO UP.

        Heheheeee.

oh really?? she sounds like the perfect pretty submissive asian housewife who’ll cook pretty things for me when i want her to (otherwise i’ll totally beat her ass down). if you could introduce me to her i’d be forever grateful. thank you melly.

      • December 6, 2009 8:28 pm

You sound like the most perfect husband an Asian woman could ever want! You must have cute, cupcake making girls beating down your door!

There are no fantasy at all, actually I think I won’t met any Austrian people in my life. But some of my roommates thought girls who are good at food stuffs are probably cute, because pretty girls are always good at some good-looking things…
But never mind. See you around!

    • December 4, 2009 11:34 pm

Hahahahahhahahaha. I think your roommate has some really strange ideas.

From what you’ve said, you sound like you’re a pretty young guy. Hopefully in your life, you will meet a variety of people (some of them girls! gasp!) and you will learn that you can’t and shouldn’t judge peoples’ abilities based on how they look.

      1. because you’ll probably be wrong, and 2. it’s a bit creepy.

By the way, Australians get kind of confused if you refer to them as Austrians 😛

Sorry for that spell mistake, you must noticed that my English is not very good.
You’re right, we shouldn’t judge someone’ ability base on what he/she look like, it’s wrong and insolent. But you know, sometimes boys’ll make some silly conversation, just between boys and boys. And I hope you may understand we boys don’t mean it, it’s just for fun…
So, please don’t treat us as some shallow guy… we like those cute cupcakes, and then we became interested in her, and then we have a bet… *^_^*

btw: Wrong guess~ I am a student (in university) though, but not too young (I’m not a freshman), and I actually have a GF…
It must be my poor English makes me seem naive. There are some little misunderstanding… some words, I’m not very serious to say them.→_→

    • December 6, 2009 8:26 pm

Hahahahahahah! Wow so you’re only a university student? That’s still really young.

Well I hope you don’t judge your poor girlfriend as harshly as you do people you don’t even know.

I have to use my ‘ultimate weapon’ to prove that I don’t usually do those judge things, I’m a radical feminist.

Hi Crow, it’s ok to admit that you WERE interested initially in more than just the cupcakes! However, it is definitely NOT right to make a ‘bet’ with friends on some girls… NOT COOL! Especially when Melly is such a sweet angel who happens to make very pretty cupcakes too! =)
